Biography
“Songs that capture a power pop spirit tinged with a country edge, shimmering guitars and vocal harmonies recall classic California bands and more local contemporaries such as Teenage Fanclub and Daniel Wylie” Americana UK.
“Scotland’s finest alt-country power-pop band.” (Tom Morton, BBC Radio Scotland ).
Dropkick was formed by brothers Andrew and Alastair Taylor and friend Ian Grier at school in a small town on the east coast of Scotland in the late 1990s. Starting off as a punk-pop band, the band discovered the music of The Jayhawks, The Byrds, and Wilco and their sound gradually matured into more of an alt-country style but without losing the upbeat, catchy melodies of their songs. Since their self-titled debut album in 2001, they have had a succession of critically acclaimed releases on their own Taylored Records label. The latest of these “Dot The i” was released in March 2008 and has now been re-issued by Spanish label Rock Indiana Records. The band’s current album “Abelay Hotel” was their second to be released on Swedish label Sound Asleep Records and was named after a hotel the band stayed in during their headline tour of Spain in 2009.
Dropkick's line-up has changed many times over the years but in early 2011, the band reverted to its original 3 piece line-up:
Andrew Taylor - vocals, guitar, piano, drums, mandolin.
Alastair Taylor - vocals, guitar, pedal steel.
Ian Grier - vocals, bass, organ.
