Singer/songwriter Blake Sennett is best known for writing and performing with the Los Angeles indie rock band Rilo Kiley. Once the band finished promoting its second album, The Execution of All Things, Jenny Lewis went on to record with the Postal Service while Sennett created the honeyed indie rock stylings of the Elected. With their twangy indie rock mix well suited for Rilo Kiley fans and alt-country fans alike, the Elected issued their debut album on Sub Pop in early 2004. Me First included Sennett's epic soundscapes of lost loves and self-reflection; Rilo Kiley drummer Jason Boesel, bassist Daniel Brummel, and multi-instrumentalist Mike Bloom joined Sennett as his backing band. Two years later, with another Rilo Kiley album in the vault (2004's More Adventurous), Sennett resumed things with the Elected. The warm hues of Sun, Sun, Sun (2006) marked the band's second release for Sub Pop.
