So I’m supposed to write a biography that gives everyone an insight on my musical endeavors. Well, here it goes.
Growing up, music was always a major part of my life. I grew up in Hawaii, and I remember driving an hour every Saturday morning to Kanioi bay for piano lessons. My dad and I would sing along to the radio the entire way there, which made Saturday my favorite day of the week. I also quickly realized my love for being on stage, and couldn’t wait until my piano recitals so I could show off my new skills to the mostly-hawaiian audience.
When we moved to Iceland, I was even more focused on piano, and picked up the flute as well. There was a band program in the elementary school which I took full advantage of. When moving to Virginia in middle school, I quickly realized how serious the music programs were and that a major amount of money was put into them. I loved having band as an every day class, and put a lot of time into practicing my instrument…perhaps even more than my homework.
For my thirteenth birthday, my parents got me an acoustic guitar. I had always wanted to try it, and after they bought me one I couldn’t put it down. As soon as the guitar was in my hands I began writing my own songs, since I didn’t know how to play any other songs beside the basic chord changes. this is where the music really took off for me.
The summer before my senior year of high school I got a macbook pro, and decided to try garage band out one day when the excitement was lacking. I recorded a song called Single Moment, and didn’t play it for anyone because I thought it was really bad. My good friend Greg offered to help me mix it and I then had a demo in my hands, but I still refused to play it for hardly anyone.
One night, during the first week of school, I was on aim and Dave Melillo was online. We were having a normal conversation, and the fact that I recorded one of my songs came up. He convinced me to send it to him, and when I did he liked it so much that he offered for me to go record my music in New York with him and Mike Brylinski, with Jeff Czum on guitar and Mikey Lasaponara on drums. This was a dream come true, considering that I didn’t think anything like that was remotely possible for me.
Well, here I am today. My EP is out on iTunes, and I am loving life to the fullest. I keep busy with songwriting and being a senior in highschool, and welcome the future with open arms. I’m ready to see what the world of music has to offer, and I can’t wait to show it what I can bring to the table.
