原名Paul Francis，Sage Francis出生于罗德岛，其风格吸收了多种不同音乐调性，歌词针对人性复杂面以及各式各样的想像、隐喻，搭配偶一为之的双关语、荒谬、流行文化，以传统嘻哈音乐的说唱风格及自我推销而闻名。 拥有双学位的他，所学为大众传播与新闻。九零年代中期，开始尝试组成嘻哈乐队并且灌录自制音乐卡带，期间在独立广播电台WRIU主持节目。他与近年渐渐走红的Aesop Rock，以及你不能不注意的anticon records（发行主要以另类嘻哈、电子音乐等类型为主），算是九零年代地下嘻哈乐界的代表，形成一个另类的圈圈。
