We Can Create

After delivering consistently excellent singles over the past twelve months or so, bedroom producer James Chapman has finally unleashed his debut album, and it's a bit of a corker too. Channelling the euphoric pop spirit of these early emissions, the album is a persistently engaging body of work, serving up plenty of emotional clout alongside the synthscapes and electronic beats. Improbably, Chapman doesn't use a computer when producing these impressive concoctions, instead he favours a cut & paste approach on his old 16-track recorder. Lucky for him, he's aided by Bjork and Bonnie 'Prince'Billy production cohort Valgeir Sigurdsson, who alongside Kenny Thomas (whose own credits include Sigur Ros and Hope Of The States) helps polish Chapman's production work. Singles 'Lost My Soul' and 'Don't Fear' still sound magnificent in all their digital post-rock glory, bringing to mind a kind of middle ground between Junior Boys, Ulrich Schnauss and My Bloody Valentine.
